In person tutoring
In-person tutoring — for either individuals or small groups working on the same material — is available by appointment. Sessions are usually 45 minutes - 1 hour, and can take place at either a public location (libraries work well) or in your home, provided that an adult is present for any students under 18. In general, I can travel to most of Westchester County (NY) and the southern part of Putnam County.
Online tutoring
Online tutoring is also available by appointment, also usually for 45 minutes - 1 hour. In order to be effective you’ll need:
A reliable, stable high-speed internet connection
Google Chrome browser
A desktop or laptop with a camera and microphone (for video conferencing)
Optionally, a headset to reduce background noise
Optionally, the ability to photograph your work and email it, both before and during the session
Optionally, a tablet with stylus to enable you to draw on the online whiteboard
I use the Bitpaper online whiteboard, which provides a complete record of our session that can be maintained online or downloaded as a .pdf file. Complete connection instructions will be provided in advance of our meeting.
Quick question support
Stuck on a particular point or with just one problem? Send an email or submit your question here, with a copy of what you’d like to discuss (picture or scan). If it is something I can answer quickly, I will reply as soon as I can by email. If not, I may suggest scheduling a mini online video or audio conference. (Just in case, please include some times when you are available with your original question).
Volunteer tutoring
I volunteer with several other tutors in a weekly drop-in session at the Ossining Public Library. To find us search for "Math tutoring" in the library's calendar. Tutoring sessions are the same day each week, and are open to all on days that school is in session. Depending on demand, students are divided into small groups (usually by topic) and assigned to work with one of the tutors.
I also volunteer online with the Actuarial Foundation’s Math Motivators program (tutoring) and Modeling the Future Challenge for high school students
